Water of Leith, Edinburgh |
As befits a capital city, Edinburgh has an abundance of attractions
- historical, architectural, cultural, educational, scenic and sporting.
Home of the Edinburgh
International Festival, there are many places of interest.
Within a few minutes walk from our apartments, in the west end of the city centre, are The Scottish
National Gallery of Modern Art, and the Dean
Gallery with exhibits of modern Scottish and European
sculpture and art - both galleries have excellent cafeteria/coffee
shops.
A short walk down the hill is Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's original
villages, which has many excellent small shops offering fresh produce,
a supermarket and two delicatessens; as well as a post office, book
shop, public library, local theatre, public swimming pool and a
good variety of restaurants
and pubs.
Edinburgh City Centre is a short stroll
over Thomas Telford's Dean Bridge spanning the Water of Leith, with
historic Dean Village in the valley to the west, and the private
wooded Dean Gardens to the east - access to which is available to
guests. To the north; by way of Stockbridge, the Water of Leith
and Inverleith Park, are the world renowned Royal
Botanic Gardens.
With good and surprisingly quiet roads outside the city, Edinburgh
is ideal for exploring the attractive villages, glens, hills and
rivers of Scotland: not forgetting the numerous golf
courses and whisky distilleries - most welcoming
visitors.
